Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Have you ever stood at the precipice of a New beginning, a daunting challenge, or an impossible dream, feeling a knot of fear tighten in your stomach? Perhaps you're facing a Goliath-sized problem, a Red Sea-level obstacle, or a wilderness season that seems endless. In these moments, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, ill-equipped, and utterly unqualified for the task ahead.
But what if I told you that in those very moments of fear and uncertainty, you are a prime candidate for a miracle? What if God has laid out a clear, Divine strategy for you to not just survive, but to thrive and experience His supernatural intervention?
This is precisely the message God delivers to Joshua in one of the most pivotal transitions in biblical history. Moses, the great leader, is gone. Now, an entire nation stands on the brink of a Promised land, but between them and their inheritance lies the formidable Jordan River, fortified cities, and powerful enemies. Joshua, a servant of Moses, is suddenly thrust into leadership. His fears are palpable, but God's response is an unwavering blueprint for miraculous success.
The Call to Courage: "Be Strong and Very Courageous" (v. 7, 9)
God doesn’t just tell Joshua to "be strong and courageous" once, but three times in these three verses! This repetition underscores a vital truth: courage isn't the absence of fear, but the decision to move forward in spite of it. Joshua had reason to be afraid. He was stepping into monumental shoes, leading millions of people into conflict.
This is a powerful word for us today. God knows your fears. He understands the giants you face. His repeated command to "be strong and very courageous" is not a reprimand, but an empowerment. It’s a divine infusion of strength, a reminder that the source of true courage isn't found within ourselves, but in Him.
Actionable Step: Identify one area where fear is holding you back. Acknowledge the fear, but then speak God's command over yourself: "I will be strong and courageous, for the Lord my God is with me."

The Foundation of Obedience: "Be Careful to Obey All the Law" (v. 7)
God immediately links courage to obedience. This isn't just about following rules; it's about aligning your Will with God's perfect wisdom. Joshua was to obey "all the law," not just the parts he liked or understood. He was not to "turn from it to the right or to the left." This signifies an unwavering commitment, a focused determination to stay on God's path.
Why such strict adherence? "That you may be successful wherever you go." Divine success isn't defined by worldly metrics alone; it's about fulfilling God's purpose for your life. And that purpose is unlocked through obedience. Disobedience is not just a moral failing; it's a detour from the path of blessing and miraculous intervention.
Actionable Step: Reflect on areas where you might be tempted to "turn to the right or to the left" from God's known will. Commit to a renewed, wholehearted obedience.
The Power of the Word"Meditate on it Day and Night" (v. 8)
This is the very heart of God's strategy for success and miracles. It’s the engine that fuels courage and empowers obedience. Joshua wasn’t just to read the law; he was to meditate on it day and night. The word "meditate" (hagah in Hebrew) literally means to mutter, to ponder, to chew on, to digest. It's an active, ongoing process of internalizing God's truth.
Why is this so crucial?
It Feeds Your Faith: The more you immerse yourself in God's promises, the stronger your faith becomes, starving your fears.
It Guides Your Steps: Constant meditation means the Word guides your decisions, informs your actions, and keeps you on the path of obedience.
It Renews Your Mind: It transforms your thinking, aligning it with God's perspective, enabling you to see challenges as opportunities for His intervention.
The promise attached to this? "Then you will be prosperous and successful." This prosperity and success are not just material, but holistic – encompassing your spiritual life, your relationships, and your purpose.
The Unwavering Presence: "For the Lord Your God Will Be With You" (v. 9)
Ultimately, the source of Joshua’s strength, the reason for his courage, and the guarantee of his success isn't his own ability or even his perfect obedience. It’s the unwavering, undeniable presence of God. "Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
This is the ultimate promise of the New Covenant too. Just as God was with Joshua to bring an entire nation into their promised land, He is with you through the Holy Spirit to navigate every challenge and fulfill every promise He has made to you. His presence means you are never alone, never outmatched, and never without hope.
His presence transforms ordinary situations into extraordinary opportunities for His power to be displayed. It makes the impossible, possible.
Are You a Candidate for a Miracle?
Yes, you are. If you are standing at the threshold of something new, feeling inadequate, or facing seemingly insurmountable odds, God's word to Joshua is His word to you.
Be strong and courageous in the face of your fear.
Be diligent in obedience to His known will.
Immerse yourself in His Word through constant meditation.
When you commit to this Divine strategy, you open yourself up to God's miraculous intervention. You become a prime candidate for a miracle, for He has promised to be with you, to prosper you, and to lead you to success in His perfect plan.
